Did You Know? Veterans make up 6.1% of the adult population in the U.S. but 10.5% of the adult population in Alaska, making Alaska the state with the greatest percentage of Veterans in the nation.

Resources supporting Veterans on the pathway to homeownership or stable housing can be important to transitioning into civilian life, and serve as an acknowledgement of Veterans’ achievements and sacrifices.

At Alaska Housing Finance Corporation, we are proud to offer a range of resources designed to support Veterans and their families in accessing safe, quality, affordable housing. Among these is our Veterans Mortgage Loan.

In the last two years, 553 Veteran households have selected the AHFC loan with purchases scattered statewide.

Designed for Veterans

Alaska Housing Finance Corporation is proud to support qualified Veterans looking to become homeowners, and we are thankful for their service,” Stephanie Eddy, underwriting Officer in AHFC’s mortgage department says.

AHFC’s Veterans Mortgage Loan is available to Veterans and their families within 25 years of completing full-time active-duty service. It offers a fixed interest rate that can be combined with a U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs guarantee or private mortgage insurance. Together, these options can save thousands for eligible homebuyers making a smaller down payment – less than 20% in urban communities or 10% in rural.

“The Veterans Loan Program is unique to AHFC, as this option is only offered in five states.  We are glad to be able to offer it as a resource to those who have served," Stephanie says.

  • 1% interest rate reduction on the first $50,000 of the loan amount. Veterans must meet "State Vet" income limits and this can not be combined with the Veterans Mortgage Loan.
