Testing and Training Requirements
The amendments to the Alaska Home Energy Rating System regulations established additional training and background information requirements. These requirements must be met to renew your energy rater agreement with Alaska Housing.
Advanced Blower Door or Pressure Diagnostics
All energy raters must complete either an Alaska Housing-approved Advanced Blower Door course or Anthony Cox's Pressure Diagnostics course and submit a copy of their training certificate to Alaska Housing.

- Passing test score not required
- Training certificate required
- Residential endorsement not required
Advanced AKWarm
All energy raters must pass the online Advanced AKWarm test. The test covers the AKWarm Version 2 software and advanced elements of reporting, modification and addressing atypical component features. All energy raters, regardless of tenure or experience, are required to pass the exam. A passing test score of 70 percent or higher is required to renew energy rater agreements. Completion of the Advanced AKWarm training course is strongly encouraged, however a passing test score meets this course requirement.

- Training certificate strongly encouraged
- Residential endorsement not required
BEES/Alaska Ventilation
This course requirement can be met by submitting either:
- a copy of a current passing test score, or
- a copy of a current BEES training certificate
A passing test score of 70 percent or higher meets the BEES education requirement. A copy of your test score or the course training certificate meets the documentation requirement.

Cold Climate Exam
All energy raters, regardless of tenure or experience, are required to pass the exam. A passing test score of 70 percent or higher is required to renew energy rater agreements.
COLD CLIMATE BUILDING SCIENCE TRAINING
All energy raters are required to maintain a current BEES Compliance Certification and must submit a one-time proof of completion. Submit one of the following to Alaska Housing:
- A copy of the training certificate for an Alaska Housing-approved Cold Climate building science course
- A copy of an Alaska Residential endorsement certificate

- Residential endorsement meets requirement
Combustion safety
Alaska Housing strongly recommends that energy raters complete a combustion safety course. However, possession of the BPI certification card will meet the combustion safety training requirement, because combustion safety is covered extensively in the BPI qualification exams. Submit one of the following to Alaska Housing to meet this requirement:
- a copy of a current BPI Building Analyst certification, or
- a copy of the certificate for combustion safety training.

BPI certification card
All Alaska Housing-authorized energy raters are required to obtain and maintain BPI Building Analyst certification. Proof of BPI certification can be met by:
- A copy of the BPI Building Analyst certification card with expiration information
- A copy of the BPI Building Analyst paper certificate
- Copies of both written and field test scores
