The PFD: An Investment in Your Future

Distribution for the 2025 Alaska Permanent Fund Dividend will begin October 2 - now is the perfect time to consider ways to invest the anticipated funds in your future! Extra cash opens the door to new opportunities for progress toward your short and long term financial goals with real returns for you and your family. If you are receiving the PFD this year, consider these investment ideas!

1. Pay down debt: Put money toward credit card bills or high-interest debt. If you’re concerned that your credit card debt is getting out of hand, download this workbook by the Credit Financial Protection Bureau to learn specific tips to help you get on track. 
2. Start or boost your emergency fund: Create a savings fund for unexpected expenses or emergencies.
3. Invest in your education & career: Sign up for a certification or online course that will help advance in your career, or put money toward tuition, school supplies, or an Alaska 529 education savings plan.
4. Save for large purchases: Whether it’s a reliable vehicle or  technology like a computer or phone, some big purchases can make your life easier and open opportunities.
5. Contribute to your homebuying fund: When you’re saving for homeownership, every extra bit of savings can help you make progress toward your goal. While you’re saving, sign up for a free AHFC homebuyer education course.
6. Contribute more toward your mortgage: If you have a mortgage, making even one extra payment per year can reduce the term of your loan.

Reminder: PFDs are considered taxable income and may come with some tax consequences.
