Running for Life

Many of AHFC’s employees volunteer and help raise money for worthy causes.

The little a triathlon at the Matanuska Lakes State Recreation Area is physically hard, but it might be more draining emotionally. The event is a fundraiser and memorial in one.

Funds raised go to a family with a child currently receiving treatment for cancer. In 2016, the recipient was Maddy Brandl, a fifth grader from Eagle River who was placed on hospice care but sadly passed away.

The Triathlon Duo

AHFC’s Cathy Stone, director of public housing and Daniel Delfino, director of planning were among those sweating it out and supporting the cause getting through 800 meters of swimming in Matanuska Lake, 10 miles of off-road biking and four miles of trail running.

Here are some comments from Cathy and Daniel:

“First ever tri for Daniel... impressive and super sweet. I had to MAKE him pass me on the bike, I think he wanted to help me along, but he was way too fast. It was an inspiring event, hard to not get emotional when you think of the cause.” — Cathy

“A 4.4 mile run with 370 feet of gain, 10.5 mile bike with 850 feet of gain and all kinds of roots, rocks, etc., and a swim that my GPS didn't accurately read - although I can confirm Cathy finished the swim ahead of me.” — Daniel
