Building Opportunities for the American Dream
Homeownership continues to be the American dream for many Alaskans. June is National Homeownership Month, which provides an opportunity to reflect on how Alaska Housing Finance Corporation is serving residents and helping them reach that dream whether it be on the bank of their favorite river or in an urban setting.
Find the Right Loan Options for You
Alaska Housing has various mortgage products and loan options that can help homebuyers get into a home and start building equity with affordable down payments.
AHFC’s loans require a minimum down payment of 5% of the purchase price, but some mortgage products have lower down payment options through the combined use of government insured or guarantee programs, such as VA, FHA, HUD-184 or USDA Rural Development. AHFC partners with other agencies to promote homeownership through down payment assistance programs for qualified borrowers.
Different loans will make sense for different borrowers. That is why understanding various financing options is important. You can learn more about loan options here or talk to an approved AHFC lender.
Education and Information for Homebuyers
Part of AHFC’s role is to educate Alaskans on the home purchase process – including first-time homebuyers and those who have previously owned homes. Depending on the needs of the individual learner, Alaska Housing offers HomeChoice™ and Finally Home!
Fun fact: Millennials (individuals between approximately 26- to 41-years old) make up over half of AHFC’s free homebuyer education attendees.
The knowledge offered empowers homebuyers to make an informed decision about purchasing their home while also giving them the tools to endure during times of hardship.
Sharing the Joy of Homeownership
