Applications Accepted for Voucher program that Injects $30 Million Annually into Private Housing Sector Deadline is April 30, 2021
ANCHORAGE, ALASKA, March 31, 2021 – The federally funded Housing Choice Voucher program that provides housing options for eligible families and a steady income stream for participating landlords is accepting applications for the Anchorage waiting list through April 30.
Up to 4,000 applicants will be selected for the waiting list. If there are more applicants than openings, a randomization process will determine who makes the list and what their position will be on it. The Housing Choice Voucher program is different from Rent Relief that was offered to Alaskans in February and March, and requires a separate application.
“A tremendous amount of federal financial assistance has been provided to renters throughout Alaska as a result of the pandemic,” said Bryan Butcher, AHFC’s CEO/executive director, “but our Housing Choice Voucher program has been around for a long time and is proven to support families with tools they can use to build a brighter future. When renters can choose where to live – near their work, their kids’ school or on a bus route – they are more likely to achieve financial success. It’s also a positive program for property owners, providing almost $3 million per month to private sector landlords.”
Applications for Alaska Housing’s Anchorage Housing Choice Voucher program will be accepted from April 1 through April 30, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. More information is available at https://www.ahfc.us/tenants/rental-programs/applications.
