Anchorage Housing Choice Voucher Waiting List Opens April 1

The period to apply for the Housing Choice Voucher waitlist for the Municipality of Anchorage including Girdwood, Eagle River, Eklutna and communities in between opens soon!

Housing Choice Vouchers help low-income households, including older Alaskans and individuals with disabilities, afford safe housing. Housing Choice Vouchers allow an eligible household to select a unit in the private market to rent, and AHFC pays a portion of the household’s rent directly to the landlord. Participants are able to find their own housing, including housing suitable for larger households.

The application period opens on Tuesday, April 1, 2025 at 8:00 a.m. and closes on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. Alaska Time.

One-on-one application assistance and translation services will be available. Every applicant has an equal opportunity to be ranked at the top of the list whether you apply on the first day or the last day of the month.

Check Your Eligibility

  • When applicants reach the top of the waiting list they are screened for eligibility, including income limits required by HUD. The maximum income level varies depending on your location and the size of your household. There is no minimum income requirement.
  • This application period is open specifically for those wishing to utilize a Housing Choice Voucher to rent in the Anchorage area, including Girdwood, Eagle River, Eklutna and communities in between. Families who are not currently living within the Municipality of Anchorage, but plan to move into the area, may apply.
