Rent Reduction for AHFC Families Through Safety Net

Editor's note: The application period for Safety Net closed at 5:00pm on November 30th, 2021.
Do you live in Public Housing or receive a Housing Choice Voucher? Has your family been affected by income loss due to COVID-19? You may qualify for rent relief through Safety Net, a special hardship process implemented by Alaska Housing Finance Corporation (AHFC).
Do I Qualify for Safety Net?
To qualify for rent reduction through Safety Net, you must live in AHFC Public Housing or receive a Housing Choice Voucher and have demonstrable income loss due to COVID-19.
- Families must submit an application and provide verification of their change in circumstances and current income.
- If families receive rent relief for a particular month (from Alaska Housing Rent Relief or another third-party provider), then they cannot also qualify for Safety Net.
- Families that receive rent relief for a partial month may still qualify for Safety Net. Submit an application and include information regarding the partial rent relief received.
For persons residing in Multifamily Housing, speak with your property manager. A family may qualify for an interim examination to reduce rent.
How Does Safety Net Work?
Qualified families’ rent portion will be reduced to approximately 28.5 percent of their reduced monthly income. The reduced rent will remain in place through December 31, 2021.
Where Do I Apply?
You can submit your information securely online or through a paper application.
