More Than 10,000 Apply for Alaska Housing Homeowner Assistance

This spring, the application period opened for Alaska Housing Homeowner Assistance. Homeowners who experienced financial hardships due to the COVID-19 pandemic were able to apply for relief.

A congressionally funded program, Alaska Housing Homeowner Assistance is designed to reduce mortgage delinquencies, forbearances and foreclosures. It also seeks to prevent the loss of utilities or energy services for homeowners impacted financially by the pandemic.

“The opportunity for this program to offer relief to struggling homeowners all across the state is significant,” said Bryan Butcher, CEO/Executive Director of Alaska Housing Finance Corporation. “The relationship that AHFC has built throughout the last 50 years with Alaska’s financial community – banks, credit unions, and real estate brokerages – is going to be pivotal in the delivery of funds to assist Alaska homeowners who may be in or near financial crisis as a result of the global pandemic.”

Application Review Process

The application period ran from March 14 through April 4. More than 10,000 applications from across the state were submitted.

Alaska Housing is now working through the application review process and each applicant is paired with an AHFC Homeowner Assistance Specialist who helps work through each step of the process.

Once completed, the distribution of funds will begin.
