Let Energy Efficiency Make Your Home “Smart”

Homes were “smart” way before Alexa, security systems, and smart TVs. A “smart home” is an energy efficient home, which is good for your bank account and for the environment. AHFC has a “smart home” series on YouTube that helps you automate (hello efficiency!) your home with just a few changes.

Here are a few ways you can conserve energy today if you’re not quite ready for automation:

  • Turn appliances and lights off or unplug them when they’re not in use. Turning your computer off or lights off when not in use can really add up over time.
  • Use a clothesline instead of a dryer. Create an indoor clothesline so you never have to worry about the weather.
  • Turn the heat down and use a blanket. Adjusting your thermostat just one or two degrees can make a big difference – and it gives you a good excuse to use your fluffiest blanket!
