In February 2025, Alaska Housing Finance Corporation brought together more than 130 industry professionals from across the nation for Energy Efficiency NOW Training, with the goal of sharing energy efficiency knowledge benefiting Alaska.

Building on the success of last year's Energy Efficiency NOW Training, the 2025 event brought in additional vendors and sought-after instructors from across the country. For the first time, the training also incorporated architects and engineers.

Experts presented on topics including best practices for building in cold climates, heat pumps, passive house design and construction, residential building codes, energy conservation codes and NAR's GREEN Designation.

Four tracks for raters, building professionals, real estate professionals and those dealing with building codes provided Alaskans from different industries the opportunity to advance their knowledge in areas relevant to them, with continuing education credits available for many of the training sessions.

AHFC Mortgage Outreach Specialist Savannah said of the real estate track, "I was so proud to see AHFC and its partners coming together to make the quality of housing better for Alaskans. Learning from and sharing ideas with subject-matter experts about our real-world solutions left me feeling inspired."

Dale, an EE NOW attendee and facilities manager at AHFC, said that he and his team strive to incorporate energy efficiency features in all their projects, where practical. "EE NOW is a great opportunity for facilities staff to learn both new and historically proven techniques that we can dovetail into our work," he said.

Lars, AHFC energy specialist I, organized the event for the first time this year and was tasked with expanding the training to include more vendors, attendees and experts. "With a lot of help from the team, we were able to accomplish all of these goals," he said. "It was a great learning experience and overall I think we increased the knowledge base for energy efficiency professionals within the state."
