Anchorage Housing Choice Voucher Waitlist Open to Applications at Alaska Housing Finance Corporation through April 30, 2025
ANCHORAGE, Alaska – April 4, 2025 –Alaska Housing Finance Corporation is accepting applications for its Housing Choice Voucher waitlist in Anchorage. Housing Choice Vouchers are funded by the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development, allowing eligible participants to select a unit in the private rental market with AHFC paying a a portion of the tenant’s rent to the landlord.
The application period opened on Tuesday, April 1, 2025 at 8:00 a.m. and will close on Wednesday, April 30, 2025 at 1:00 p.m., Alaska Time.
“Federally funded Housing Choice Vouchers are the most popular of all rental programs that exist in the United States and here in Alaska,” says Bryan Butcher, CEO/executive director of AHFC. “Participants benefit from flexibility about where they choose to live, whether in close proximity to their work, schools or bus routes. It also provides consistent and reliable income for landlords with AHFC paying a portion, but not all, of the monthly rent obligation.”
Applicants can apply online with mobile devices or desktops, including at AHFC’s Family Investment Center that is located at 440 E Benson Blvd. Computers are available on a first-come, first-serve basis Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and on Saturday, April 12, 2025 from 1-5 p.m. For those needing reasonable accommodations, assistance is available by calling (907) 330-6100 or emailing phd.anchorage@ahfc.us.
Anchorage Housing Choice Voucher Waitlist Process:
- Apply online before the April 30, 2025 deadline at ahfc.us (https://www.ahfc.us/tenants/programs-opportunities/privately-owned-rentals/anchorage-housing-choice-voucher).
- Only one application for an Anchorage Housing Choice Voucher may be submitted per household. Duplicate applications, including for individuals from the same household, will be rejected.
- After the application period closes, all applications will be randomly assigned a number and AHFC will notify applicants of their status by email.
- As AHFC works through the waitlist, applicants will be periodically contacted and asked to “Save My Spot”, and as they approach the top of the waitlist will be screened for eligibility consistent with HUD requirements, including determination that they do not exceed maximum income limits.
Informational flyers about the Anchorage Housing Choice Voucher waitlist are available at the Loussac, Muldoon and Mt. View libraries. Additional outreach events hosted by AHFC staff and partners will be held at 3rd Avenue Resource and Navigation Center, 1101 E 3rd Avenue, Anchorage:
- Tuesday, April 8, 2025, 9 a.m.–1 p.m.
- Tuesday, April 22, 2025, 9 a.m.–1 p.m.
- Tuesday, April 29, 2025, 9 a.m –1 p.m.
Low-income households, including older Alaskans and individuals with disabilities, are encouraged to apply for Anchorage’s Housing Choice Voucher waitlist. The maximum income limit determined by HUD varies depending on household size. There is no minimum income requirement.
This waitlist is open specifically for those wishing to utilize a Housing Choice Voucher in the Anchorage area, including Girdwood, Eagle River, Eklutna and communities in between. Families who are not currently living within the Municipality of Anchorage but plan to move into the area may apply.
Individuals on other waitlists for housing at AHFC or participating in other rental assistance programs may qualify for an Anchorage Housing Choice Voucher. An application for Anchorage’s Housing Choice Voucher waitlist must be submitted online before April 30, 2025 at 1 p.m.
Participants who are approved for rental assistance go through the participating landlord's standard application and approval process, just like any other renter.
