‘I Spy’ A Holiday Treat

Christmas may only come once a year, but for two Alaska Housing Finance Corporation (AHFC) employees the planning for holiday fun lasted throughout the year.

Lisa Corcoran and Mike Phelps from AHFC’s Public Housing Department in Juneau wanted to have a Christmas-themed “I Spy” game for residents at the Cedar Park Apartments. So throughout the year, the duo gathered items at garage sales, including toys, decorations and other interesting objects, all with an eye on bringing some merriment in December.

Creating A Winter Wonderland

As the holidays got closer, Lisa gathered the decorations and developed a festive display on tables Mike built and placed in front of windows for all to see.

Then, residents were given an “I Spy” sheet with 100 holiday-themed items to find in the display. Residents have from December 6 through 31 to turn in their completed forms to be entered into a drawing for restaurant gift certificates.

“What joy it was for us to see the end result,” Lisa said. “Every time we look in the window or drive by, it makes all of us happy.”
