The United States Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) is the funding source for AHFC’s public housing programs and it has authorized AHFC to issue payment to participating landlords on its regular monthly schedule which is Thursday, Oct. 2, 2025.
Tenants are reminded to pay their monthly rental obligation in order to remain in good standing with their landlord and to communicate with them proactively if they experience difficulty due to loss of other benefits or furlough.
Yes. Residents receiving AHFC housing assistance should continue to pay their portion of rent as usual. A government closure does not relieve you of your responsibilities to continue paying your portion of the monthly rent. Failure to pay your share could put your housing at risk.
Yes. Landlords will continue to receive subsidy payments as long as federal funds are available. The Federal Government Shutdown will have no immediate impact on Housing Voucher payments. AHFC landlords can look forward to distribution of payment as is customary on the second business day of the month, Thursday, Oct. 2, 2025. The next payment is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2025.
AHFC has consistently paid its obligations to private sector landlords for housing vouchers, including during the federal government shutdowns that occurred in 2018-19, 2013 and 1995. AHFC is actively seeking new landlords to participate in its housing voucher programs and has for a limited time made available security deposit assistance and $1,000 incentives for long-term leases with tenants. Even in the unlikely event where a government shutdown was prolonged and payment from HUD was delayed, the tenant would still be responsible for paying their obligation to total monthly rent.
