Housing Quality Standards (HQS) Inspector Training

The training will ensure that inspectors thoroughly understand the required elements of Housing Quality Standards (HQS). An examination for certification is offered at the end of the training session.
Upon completion of the training, HQS trainees will be able to identify what constitutes a decent safe and sanitary unit; HUD’s requirements for inspections, including electricity and security, walls, ceilings, floor interiors and kitchen requirements, bathroom and building exteriors as well as heating and plumbing, and general health and safety issues. Lead-based paint regulations will be discussed, as well as how to conduct an on-site inspection.
A group-live seminar, featuring PowerPoint, case studies, group discussion and class materials, with interactive brainstorming and question and answer sessions. Materials will include course HQS Master Book.
Training will be most beneficial for line staff that complete inspections prior to occupancy.
