As part of the 2025 Capital budget, the Alaska Legislature and Governor Dunleavy addressed this issue head-on allocating $7 million toward a New Home Construction Rebate to be managed by Alaska Housing Finance Corporation.
ANCHORAGE, Alaska – April 4, 2025 –Alaska Housing Finance Corporation is accepting applications for its Housing Choice Voucher waitlist in Anchorage. Housing Choice Vouchers are funded by the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development, allowing eligible participants to select a unit in the private rental market with AHFC paying a a portion of the tenant’s rent to the landlord.
Apply to be on the waitlist for a Housing Choice Voucher in the Municipality of Anchorage, including Girdwood, Eagle River, Eklutna and communities in between. The application period closes on April 30th, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. Alaska Time. Find out if you are eligible and how to apply.
Responding to a market hurdle where potential homebuyers struggle to come up with the thousands of dollars necessary for a down payment, Alaska Housing Finance Corporation launched its 97% loan-to-value option this month. “The initial cost of homeownership can be daunting,” says Bryan Butcher, AHFC’s CEO/executive director. “This announcement is exciting because homebuyers can save thousands of dollars on their down payment, making homeownership more accessible to Alaskans.”
