Congress recently passed the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 which includes funds to help families struggling to pay their rent or mortgage and to provide immediate and direct housing relief. While the previous funds were only available to renters, the American Rescue Plan is a new federal program that will distribute over $200 million in additional housing relief to renters and homeowners.
To accommodate the diverse housing needs of Alaskans and to ensure that all residents have access to safe, quality, affordable rentals, AHFC offers a wide variety of rental programs. One of these, Step, goes beyond just providing rental assistance and gives participants a clear path to long-term housing security. 
Only hours are left for Alaska renters to apply for rent and utility relief through Alaska Housing Relief. This federally funded program may be able to provide up to 12 months of rent and utility assistance to Alaskans who have been impacted by COVID-19, meet certain financial criteria, live in an overcrowded household or are at risk of violence.
The deadline to apply for rent and utility relief through Alaska Housing Rent Relief is 11:59 p.m., Friday, March 5, 2021.
The application period opens for renters to apply for rent and/or utility relief through Alaska Housing Relief, a federally funded COVID-19 response program, administered by Alaska Housing Finance Corporation at 8 a.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, Feb., 16, 2021.
ANCHORAGE, Alaska, Jan. 27, 2021 – Alaska Housing Finance Corporation has been authorized by Governor Dunleavy and the Legislature to administer up to $200 million in federal funds to eligible Alaskan renters who have been negatively impacted by COVID-19.
